Who I Am

Hi! I’m Julie, and I’m a travelholic. I once was accused of being “perpetually on vacation”. While this sentiment didn’t sit well with me at the time, I’ve come to embrace it.

I’m also single, in my 40s.

The impetus behind Destination Dating is actually incredibly selfish, and two-fold: I’m looking for a spouse and I need travel buddies!

To the former, I’m nearly a decade past the disaster that was online-dating for me. I spent loads of time texting or chatting with men who were never going to try to meet me in person, or who lived so far away that a casual getting-to-know-you date was out of the question. I attended “Singles Conferences” that were downright insulting; eating hot dogs and beans for lunch and being in a room that was 95% female is not how I want to meet my future spouse! When I heard from multiple ecclesiastical leaders that more adults in my faith were single than were married, I thought, “I can do something about this!”.

To the latter, I have taken several solo globe-trotting trips that were amazing, but all my BEST trips have been with other people. However, when your friends that have young kids can’t get away, or those with older kids don’t have the disposable income to travel, your pool of eligible travel companions dwindles towards extinction. I’d love to meet others who not only want to travel but also have the means and time to actually do it.

Thus, Destination Dating.
